Say what?

This week I did something I rarely do. I burned cupcakes. Not once, but twice. Twice! Seriously. How does that happen? Two whole batches. I can't remember the last time I burned cupcakes. Let alone two times in a row.

Something good did happen though. I bought some Meyer lemons at Costco. It's super lame here and I can only get them every now and then and only at Costco. Meyer lemons are my favorite. Well, Meyer lemons and blood oranges.

For those of you out there wondering, they are a cross between a regular lemon and a mandarin or regular orange. Word on the street is they were brought to the States from China in the early 1900s by a man named Frank Nicholas Meyer, and thus their name was born. I prefer them to regular lemons because they're juice is sweeter and really when it comes down to it, their coloring is just beautiful. Don't try to google them to see, most pictures aren't actually Meyers. Here's one though. Just so you can appreciate how pretty they are.

The plan (before I burned the cupcakes) was a lemon cupcake with lemon curd (that actually turned out really well) and a seven minute frosting (I didn't even make the frosting because why would I frost burned cupcakes?). Instead I made an experimental chocolate orange truffle recipe. They turned out well, but as you've heard before, they're not perfect. I'll get there though.
